Ice Age Map is an independent educational atlas for exploring changing ice sheets, sea level and exposed continental shelves over the last 30,000 years.
What this project does
The atlas brings published datasets into an interactive map. The accompanying guides explain what those datasets mean and the questions they cannot answer. It is not an official product of NOAA, NASA, the IPCC or the authors of PaleoMIST.
How information is chosen
Scientific claims are linked to research publications, assessments or the organizations maintaining the data. Numerical statements include their reference date, scale or uncertainty when needed. Regional settlement claims are not inferred from the exposed-land layer.
These pages synthesize sources for a general audience. They have not received an independent scientific peer review. A cited paper’s peer-review status does not extend to this website or to the combination of datasets used here.
How to check or question a statement
Follow the references beside the relevant section, then compare the original scope with the claim made here. The methodology lists processing decisions and links to downloadable provenance. For a correction, identify the page, the statement and the relevant publication; these are the information needed to assess a change.
Languages and updates
English, Spanish, German and French editions use the same scientific references and numerical assumptions. Source-check dates describe when the cited material was checked for these pages, not the date when a model became scientific consensus. New evidence can change an interpretation.
